Types of Acne Pimples

Acne forms inside unhealthy pores. A pore is an opening in the skin through which a very fine hair grows. Sebaceous glands, connected to the pores produce a substance called sebum that lubricates the hair and the skin.

Acne occurs when the sebaceous glands produce too much oil. Then, as the pore's lining naturally renews itself, it sheds dead cells. These cells combine with sebum to create a plug. The result is an enlarged, blocked pore called a comedo.

A plug beneath the surface of the skin causes a white head. A plug that reaches the surface of the skin causes a blackhead. If the pore walls break down, the result is a pimple, also called a pustule.

Plugged pores cause your skin to appear less than its best; affecting more than your confidence.

Several factors can lead to acne, including:

  • Environmental factors such as pollution and humidity
  • Age-related changes
  • Heredity
  • Friction and sweat from clothing and sporting equipment
  • Some make-up and cosmetic products

Effective acne cleansing program focuses on lifting dead skin and clearing congestion that blocks pores, fighting bacteria and taking control of excess oil production of the skin.
